Edu Lobo, also known as Missa Breve, is currently enjoying a comprehensive spate of albums reissues, owing to the composer and songwriter's enduring contributions to Brazil's musical landscape since the late 1960s. On his self-titled opus, we hear nine tracks of choral music composed by Lobo for the Catholic Mass, with influences from Brazilian folk music and classical. Usually considered one of his most experimental works, the songs remain stooped in his usual song-based bossa nova structure, but are interspersed with ecclesiastical chants, adding a divine, all-important feeling to an ostensibly homely record.
