"AT Lifesaver was originally invented by an NZ company, Blaxland Scientific, who marketed it under the name Discprotec. It provided anti-static and record preservative properties, in a similar way to Milty Permostat, Nagaoka Stat-Ban 562, Rozoil Gruv Glide, Pfanstiehl Pfan-Stat, AM Record Cleaner and Static Cleaner, which are all still available in various countries and online, and others including Ball Corporation Sound Guard and Bib XL-2 Groov-Guard, which are no longer available. Sound Guard used CFC, which was banned for damaging the ozone layer, so it would no longer be viable.
Blaxland Discprotec won the Grand Prix prize at the 1978 Art-Japan Stereo Component Grand Prix, and an award from the U.S. Record Retailers' Guild for its effectiveness. It also received a lot of attention when Tokyo FM radio station found it so effective they treated their entire record library of 70,000 records with it! Technics (SH-50C1 Disc Protec) and Audio-Technica (Lifesaver with Discprotec) both bought it off Blaxland Scientific and marketed it under their own brands, "
