Metal pioneers Judas Priest are usually considered a part of the NWOBHM (new wave of British heavy metal), but were active way before that began. NWOBHM bands, to me, were Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Saxon, Raven, Girlschool, and Tygers of Pan Tang, among others. Motörhead, also frequently considered a part of that class, was active since the mid 70s, so like Priest, they were around before the "new wave" of UK metal bands.
In 1980, and to follow up their smash hit album 'Killing Machine' (renamed 'Hell Bent for Leather' here in the US), Judas Priest released their groundbreaking metal LP called 'British Steel'. 'Killing Machine' had a few hit singles, such as "Take on the World", the mellow "Before the Dawn", and their cover of an old Fleetwood Mac song "Green Manalishi". But 'British Steel' put Priest on the radio, with tracks like "Breaking the Law", "United", and the eternal classic "Living After Midnight"! Priest would continue that success with the rest of their 80s releases, and became one of the biggest rock bands in the world!
In 2010, and to celebrate the thirty year anniversary of 'British Steel', the Back on Black company in the UK re-released that album on a 12" picture disc. It's great, and is the original album's artwork, both the front and back. This copy is a heavy thick 180 gram vinyl!
In addition to the picture disc, you'll also receive a copy of that remastered album, on CD! It's the 2001 remaster, with the two extra songs, (a live version of "Grinder", and an unreleased track called "Red, White & Blue"). Cleaned up and sounding simply incredible. This CD copy is STILL SEALED and NEVER OPENED or PLAYED!
I'll also kick in a couple of magazines! First up is the UK magazine called 'Planet Rock'. (The UK has several awesome rock mags that they publish. And thankfully, they are sold here too!) This issue has the artwork from 'British Steel' on the cover, and several old Priest pics, a 50 song suggested playlist, and the main Priest article that's many, many pages long!
And I'll add one more mag, this time an 80s American metal magazine named 'Hit Parader'! That one started in 1942, with lyrics and whatnot from the big groups of that era, but by the 70s, 'Hit Parader' went all out for rock! They began featuring mostly all hard rock and metal bands, so their golden years were, of course, the 80s...this issue is October of 1987, with a (still intact) Motley Crue centerfold, and articles about AC/DC, Scorpions, Ozzy, Dokken, and more. Rob Halford (with hair!) is on the cover, and an interesting article with plenty of pics is inside.
The CD is, as mentioned, new and factory sealed. I bought the picture disc used, but it looks new. There are a couple of flaws on it. There are two marks, (see pic), that look like a deep scratch. I think it's in the vinyl, and not a scratch. Could be covered up with a black marker (but I'll leave that to the buyer.) Probably made in the manufacturing process. I can't see a crevice. And I never play specialty vinyl such as pic discs or colored records, so I can't vouch for the actual sound. That's why I'm including the CD!
The mags look great, and have no pages dog-eared. No handwriting, and no rips or tears. Both in great shape, and one's not that not far from turning FORTY! A rockin' Priest four piece bundle, available now, and at a nice price. Judas Priest released their NINETEENTH studio album, called 'Invincible Shield', on March 8, 2024. They are also currently on tour with Sabaton, and I'll be seeing them here in the States in the spring!
