Few punk lifers have managed to retain their relevance or urgency more than now 41 year old Jeff Rosenstock. From his early days as part of the Bomb The Music Industry! collective to his more recent, continuously exceptional solo output, the man has never ceased to channel his inner turmoil, personal issues or utter disdain for the capitalist regime into anthemic sing-along bangers. Hellmode marks his sixth full-length endeavour under his own name, and provides yet another batch of genre-less punk; running the gamut from emo-tinged power-pop stompers to breakneck hardcore complete with blast beats, all the way to gentle indie-folk musings all united by clever witticisms, self-deprecating honesty and stark vulnerability. For the faithful, this is yet another timeless contribution to Mr. Rosenstock's ever-expanding canon of singular punk rock, while to newcomers the record couldn't serve as a more ideal starting point to work back from.
