Black Doldrums have announced their second album In Limerence, introducing it with the single 'Hideaway'. Co-produced by Theo Verney (known for his work with English Teacher and Egyptian Blue), the album captures the band's gothic post-punk sound at its most atmospheric. Aiming for a cleaner, more direct production while maintaining the intensity of their live performances, In Limerence blends their darkwave and shoegaze roots with moments of shimmering pop and goth sounds. The follow-up to their 2022 album marks a new chapter for the band, comprising Kevin Goddard (vocals/guitar), Sophie Landers (drums) and new bassist Daniel Armstrong. Themes of regret, obsession, and romantic longing permeate the album, making the title In Limerenceia state of all-consuming loveiespecially fitting. The album is both a protest and reflection on finding happiness in today's confusing world. The band's evolution is clear; where Dead Awake felt like a transition, In Limerence reveals a refined sound, with each track offering variety while maintaining a cohesive mood. 'Hideaway' opens with furious drums and metallic guitar, while 'Dying for You' contrasts with its wintry synth layers. 'Summer Breeze' delivers a dark electro-pop vibe and 'Painted Smile' offers a tribal, goth-punk stomp. The result is an album full of emotional depth and catchy, dark-tinged melodies.
