Keeping the ball rolling off the back of the smash success of viral megahit 'Nasty', American RnB singer Tinashe released her seventh studio album Quantum Baby to rave reviews. The second instalment in a trilogy kickstarted by 2023's BB/Ang3l, Quantum Baby focuses more on passionate, punchy club bangers full of double entendres and nods to her predecessors - namely Janet Jackson and Brandy on the opening track 'No Simulation' with its cult-like chants of affirmation, calling for true love above all. The album makes up for its lean tracklist with an airtight seal of quality - it also sees Tinashe really pushing the versatility of her sound more than ever before. For every 'traditional' r&b cut, there's an experimental counterpart in songs like 'Red Flag', with its Oklou-adjacent subtle synths, and the subdued drill basslines in 'Cross That Line'. Pressed on a blue and orange vinyl, reflective of the earthy aesthetics of the era, there's a lot to like about what Tinashe is doing right now.
