Tuxedo originated from Singin' in the Rain" (1952).   The internal MGM labeling and handwriting style are consistent with other verified Gene Kelly wardrobe pieces from that production.   The suit has likely undergone some alternation over the years (notably the lapels and buttons, likely from later reuse by the studio), the core garment remains consistent with period MGM tailoring and Gene Kelly's wardrobe patterns.

An analysis of the collar and lapel design suggest that it was most likely a backup or unused wardrobe piece prepared for the production but NOT worn during filming.

Despite the fact that it was not used on screen, it remains an excellent example of MGM's golden-era age tailoring.

The tuxedo was acquired by the owner at the MGM 1970 lot auction and is in excellent condition.
