"Soul Trombone" by Curtis Fuller/The Jazz Clan
1972  Release in Stereo  (Original release was 1962)
Catalog Ref AS-13   (Cover shows A-13, but AS (for stereo is on record)
Both Sleeve and Vinyl Graded Excellent.  Laminate on surface was peeling and could not be saved; thus it was removed.  42 years of dirt and other marks on Sleeve were removed with that laminate.  LP was part of a  personal collection, and was very lightly played.   It has a small punch hole (see Photos) signifying it was  a cut-out.   It has a gate-fold style Sleeve. (see photos of inside including pic of tracks).
Vinyl shows no marks, however, can hear some surface 'noise' on 2nd track Side 1, and heard 1 Pop (no skips) toward end of  Side B.  We do listen to all LP's before listing them.

Album Review    was very busy as a leader between his recording debut in 1957 and these 1961 sessions, which made up his first LP for Impulse  and his eighteenth overall disc of his own. Though not quite as adventurous on the trombone as ,  more than holds his own  leading a band including , , , and either  or G.T. Hogan on drums. The solos on this  hard bop disc are superb, with  giving his musicians plenty of room, while his own work is first-rate. Three of the six pieces are originals  and even if they never caught on, there is no filler present anywhere.  AllMusic
Some call the music on this album 'Soul Jazz".  Perhaps so, yet we have always thought of it as straight ahead jazz in long tradition of Bop.   This was never transferred to CD for U.S. market.  It was released on CD in Japan.  The album was released in 1962.  It is a Septet, and surely is a precursor of the Jazztet, or, if you prefer in the tradition of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.  The title is "Soul Trombone" and The Jazz Clan is often confused as part of the title when it is really a name put to the group of 6 musicians who joined Fuller for these sessions.  Round 'n Round
