ANIMAL / FOLLE EVASIONE ... 7-inch, 45rpm single by MAURIZIO PINO CALO aka RICHARD COLEY aka RICHARD LAST (GROUP). Original Italian pressing on the RCV label (CPM 00014), from circa late '70s. Practically unknown and killer Italian prog funk rarity by the mastermind and singer who fronted The Richard Last Group. Calo is the man holding the umbrella in the iconic picture sleeve artwork for The Richard Last Group - Get Ready - Car Juke Box CRJ 00025 label Lp and the guy with the moustache on the cover of the Richard Coley - Dedicated Lp on the Alexandra label. For years, many collectors speculated that Calo / Coley was maybe French (mostly because of the insert inside his Dedicated Lp) but he was Italian. This ultra obscure private pressing was released under his real Italian name, albeit Coley is still credited on the label. Whatever, his amazing ANIMAL theme is a lost, indie funk prog monster, featuring explosive breaks and beats with insane guitar rhythms / spaced-out synthesizers / congas and aggressive drums. Our soundclip opens with a sample of his punk funk / leftfield disco breaks followed by the full theme. Lyrics sung in English. Great for DJs. The intro bassline reminds us of a theme from the Stefano Torossi Feelings Library too. Seldom comes up for sale. Big record with certain Japanese prog dealers and collectors.
