DESCRIPTION
Beverly Kenney - “Come Swing With Me” Roost Records RLP 2212 from 1956. Super Hard To Find Original Female Jazz Vocal 12" Vinyl Record album by Beverly Kenney backed by The Ralph Burns Orchestra - Milt Hinton, Don Lamond, Ted Sommer, MOe Wechsler, Billy Bauer, Barry Galbraith, Julius Watkins, George Berg, Danny Banks, Sam Marowitz, Nick Travis, Urbie Green and more. Original Deep Groove pressing.

Kenney worked early in life as a telephone Birthday Singer. After moving to New York City, she recorded a demo in 1954 with Tony Tamburello. By the end of the year she had moved to Miami, where she landed a recurring engagement at the Black Magic Room. Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey heard her and took her on tour in the orchestra they co-led; she worked with them for several months before breaking off to move back to New York. Upon her return, she worked in clubs with George Shearing, Don Elliott, and Kai Winding; After a short tour of the Midwest with Larry Sonn, she signed to Roost Records and released her first album in 1956. Her second release was "Come Swing with Me".

She moved to Decca Records, and released three further LPs with them, including "Beverly Kenney Sings For Playboys" (1958), "Born to Be Blue" (1959), and "Like Yesterday" (1959). "Beverly Kenney Sings For Playboys" featured liner notes by Steve Allen.

Kenney was a critically acclaimed musician, but she saw little widespread acceptance, due at least in part to the burgeoning rock & roll movement. She had an intense personal dislike for this music, even going so far as to compose a song called "I Hate Rock and Roll", which she performed on The Steve Allen Shoe on May 18, 1958.

On April 13, 1960, Kenney committed suicide. She was 28 years old.

She remains a cult figure in Japan, where all of her albums have been reissued to CD and have remained in print on a relatively steady basis.

From AllMusic: Though a singer of uncommon emotional depth, Beverly Kenney could also cut loose with the best of them, and “Come Swing With Me” captures an effervescence and playfulness often absent from her later, more renowned sessions. Paired with arranger Ralph Burns, who likewise sidesteps his usual subtle refinement for a lighter, more lively approach, Kenney retains the thoughtful phrasing and sultry demeanor that are her signatures, but it's a pleasure to hear her tackle material like "You Make Me Feel So Young" and "You Go to My Head" with such unabashed gusto.

CONDITION

The Sleeve shows a bit of basic ring and edge wear but nothing very serious. There is about a 4” split in the upper right corner and a small crease in the upper middle. There is the number “12” stamped in ink in the back upper left corner. Still, very solid with no other splits, tears, writing, etc. and nothing that affects the Artwork. Should rate a VG. The Vinyl itself is in super condition looking  like it has not been played much at all! There are a few light scuffs but, judging by the overall clean, glossy condition and the lack of any spindle trails on the labels, I doubt that it was ever played very much. Should easily rate VG+ and maybe even better.

SONG LIST

1. Give Me The Simple Life 2. I Guess I’ll Hang My Tears Out To Dry 3. The Trolley Song 4. Violets For My Furs 5. This Can’t Be Love 6. Scarlet Ribbons 7. If I Were A Bell 8. Why Try To Change Me Now 9. Swinging On A Star 10. You Go To My Head 11. It Ain’t Necessarily So 12. You Make Me Fee So Young

TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less! If you are not satisfied that a purchase meets my description, I will do what I can to make it right if you give me the chance and work with me! Please feel free to check my feedback.
