PETE BROWN & PIBLOKTO! Thousands On A Raft (UK Harvest EMI) SHVL 782
This is an original 1970 UK Harvest EMI pressing of Pete Brown and Piblokto!'s 2nd lp "Thousands On A Raft". An absolute early gem from the UK golden age of Prog. Fantastic writing and playing all around, especially from Scottish guitarist Jim Mullen who would go directly from here to Brian Auger's Oblivion Express (where he also shone very brightly). Recorded before Pete Brown took singing lessons. Not many of these pressed, which is a god-damned shame, because it is brilliant. Nearly 53 minutes long to boot.
Dead Wax Info: Side 1 has SHVL 782 A-1G and 1 M (3 o'clock & 9 o'clock) all stamped into the dead wax. Side 2 has SHVL 782 B-1G and 1 A (3 o'clock & 9 o'clock) stamped into the dead wax. FIRST UK pressing (among the first 1,500 I would guess). There were no subsequent (Harvest EMI) pressings, which is a god-damned shame of the first order!
Vinyl Visual Grade: VG+ with minimal very light marking and 1 lengthy LIGHT spindle mark and 1 shorter LIGHT spindle mark both on Side 2 . Great gloss. Labels show maybe a half-dozen plays tops.
Vinyl Play Grade: VG+ overall and NM for the majority of the lp. Pretty much AS NEW FIDELITY. There were two or three stray pops and the noise level is extremely low, even in the quietest parts. Spindle marks are of no sonic consequence.
Cover Visual Grade: VG with general wear and some chipping bottom front (see pictures). Spine is good but there is minor to moderate seam/corner wear and some feathering at opening edge. Ring wear is minimal, almost none.
Inner sleeve is original Harvest EMI poly-lined printed inner, which shows all of the other fantastic Harvest releases available in your favourite record shop. It is in fine shape. The vinyl itself will be housed in a heavy gauge plastic Audiophile style inner.
Hello all. My name is Jamie and I have been collecting records for 40+ years. It is time to trim down my unmanageable inventory. My tastes run all over the sonic map, so there should be something for almost everyone.
ALL records will have been visually inspected under BRIGHT incandescent light with extreme scrutiny.
ALL open records will have been play graded using a Thorens TD 165 turntable and Yamaha amplifier (JBL reference headphones). Treble set high so nothing will be hidden in my grades. My grading is as follows:
M or Mint - NOT USED as there is no such thing as perfection.
NM or Near Mint - No significant markings - sealed or RARELY played.
VG+ - Minimal marking - none of which significantly affects fidelity of lp.
VG - Minimal to modest marking which affects lp but not to the point of distraction.
G - Modest marking but still VERY listenable, depending on your ears.
I WILL NOT SELL ANY LP AT LESS THAN G UNLESS THERE IS SIGNIFICANT HISTORICAL VALUE ATTACHED TO THE LP.
ALL COVERS WILL HAVE DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF ALL FLAWS.
I USE PROPER RECORD MAILERS WITH STIFFENERS AND PADDED CORNERS. I HAVE BOUGHT TOO MANY RECORDS ON EBAY WITH DINGED CORNERS FROM INSUFFICIENT PACKAGING. BY PADDING THE CORNERS WITH FOLDED BUBBLE WRAP (WHICH I DO) , YOU CAN BE SURE OF RECEIVING AN LP WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE CORNERS.
SHIPPING FEES:
Shipping will be $10 U.S. for anywhere in the U.S. as long as the weight is under 500 grams after packaging.
