Here is what has been described as the 'Grail' for Led Zep fans, the very first pressing of their debut album from 1969 with the iconic and very rare turquoise lettering, code 588171.

It is uncertain how many of these first pressings were circulated but quotes suggest that only 1500-2000 copies left the plant before the decision was made to change the turquoise lettering to a more 'rock n roll' orange colour. I personally think the turquoise colour looks better!

Includes the Superhype and Jewel music label accreditation, only the very earliest pressings have these accreditations.

This rare album has obviously been well loved and shows signs of being played but it remains attractive.

The jacket.

There is some creasing along the sides and to the jacket in places and the laminate shows signs of wear along the opening edge. There is a slight closed tear of about 1cm to the middle of the rear jacket edge (please view pics) and the corners are bumped. Expect this general wear and tear for an LP of nearly 50 years old! It still presents handsomely.

Original paper sleeve

The inner sleeve is creased in places and there is a small closed tear to the rear at the middle (please see pics). It has the warning that 'Plastic bags can be dangerous' and has some age related yellowing limited to the top opening.

The record

The record itself shows some buffing and a couple of surface scratches are evident for the A1 side track 2. (Please see picture 7 and zoom in).

I have tested and played the LP through entirely and can say that there are no skips nor jumps.

The LP plays really well with some crackling which comes with the age of the album and doesn't  interfere with the enjoyment. No jumps, no skips.

There are some crackles and slight pops at around halfway through A//1 track 2 but they are short lived.

Plays fine and could do with more volume than was available on the LP player I used to test!
