ABOUT THE RECORD Back in Black, by Australian rock band AC/DC, was released as the second US single from their album of the same name. It is notable for its opening guitar riff. The song was written as a tribute to their former singer Bon Scott, who died in February 1980. The song confirmed that the band was far from over, and that they'd returned stronger than ever. In 1981, it reached No. 37 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2012, it reached No. 65 in Australia and No. 27 in the United Kingdom. AC/DC's music has been variously described as hard rock, blues rock, and heavy metal, but the band calls it simply rock and roll.
