FOUR CORNERS Lp by SECOND DIRECTION. Original Italian pressing on the ARIS label (LM 07), from 1977. Killer euro Brazilian / jazz funk / indie fusion masterpiece by crack studio musicians. Licenced to Italy from the German Trend label (just like certain Devega Italian Library). The Germans were definitely the best in Europe at this hybrid sound and for us, the Four Corners session is the funkiest example. The Kitty Winter Gipsy Nova - Feel It Lp would ‎break the mould with a female perspective, just a few years later. Club tunes like the spacey bossa fusion of FLYING CARPET RIDE was no doubt an early blue-print and inspiration to the Jazzanova collective and their futuristic jazz collages. This is the track comped by Rainer Trüby on Glücklich II and also sampled by Japanese beatmaker Bugseed. The Andalusian cum Arabic tinged PEACE (with long and mystical intro) / FOUR CORNERS samba and decontructed waltz of STORM FLUTE are in the same vein but even better. Other themes like STEAMER / FREELAND and BLUE DILEMMA have a frisson of Herbie Hancock Head Hunters with flanged keyboards and more experimental rhythms. Lots of funky drum and bass patterns / cosmic synth strings / congas a la Shamek Farah First Impressions / modal jazz horns and infectious fender rhodes on every track. Our soundclip opens with the shimmering calm before the storm of MAGIC CARPET RIDE followed by the Wolfgang Lauth penned STORM FLUTE (with wind sound FX) / FOUR CORNERS / the sophisticated jazz-dance of PEACE / then FREELAND and STEAMER to finish. Great for leftfield DJs. Striking sleeve artwork with a design by the fender rhodes player, showing silhouettes of the group. Rare Lp!!! Full tracklisting: STEAMER / FLYING CARPET RIDE / BLUE DILEMMA / FOUR CORNERS / FREELAND / STORM FLUTE / PEACE / PRAELUDIUM...

Musicians:

Karl Heinz Merkel - fender rhodes / electric piano / e-strings

Fritz Münzer - flute / sax

Jorg Gebhard - congas

Gerhard Spirka - fender bass

Val Hargreaves - drums

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG

Vinyl is closer to shiny M- condition overall with just a few hairlines and faint scuffs from sleeve removal / storage. Some light surface noises. A few soft pops in places (as you can hear on our soundclip). A tiny section of wear to one side of label (see photo). The soft card sleeve (still retaining 3/4 of its original shrinkwrap) is closer to M- condition overall regardless of some corner wear / dings and speckled faint dirt marks to any exposed areas where the original shrink has torn away. A few other tears in the shrink here and there but mostly along the open right side and across the bottom edge (as you can see in the photos). Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photo. Rare Lp!!!

Please feel free to contact us with any condition queries you may have preferably before bidding. We will get back to you asap.
