Very Good ++:  The record has its original sheen, and may have minor blemishes such as wispy hairlines, contact marks or paper scuffs more numerous that the Excellent grade.  There may be some mild surface noise but the effect on play will be minimal.  No scratches that can be felt with a fingernail.  Very acceptable to all but the fussiest collectors.

Very Good +:  Has original sheen but with the possibility of hairlines, contact marks, paper scuffs and light scratches.  Generally, the record has been well-cared for.  There may be surface noise, especially during lead-in, trail off, and quiet passages, but it does not intrude significantly on the overall sound quality.

Very Good:  Much of the original sheen is still apparent.  Scratches and other imperfections are heavier and more numerous.  There will be surface noise but it will not overpower the sound quality of the recording.  Very Good is a very acceptable condition for most rock albums, less so for other music genres.

NOTE:  The grades shown above apply to the vinyl only.  Most records are visually graded, and spot-checked for sound quality where obvious imperfections are noted.  Defects to the label, such as writing, stickers, bullet holes, tape and tears are noted and described separately.

Mint:  Factory fresh, sealed, with no imperfections.

Mint Minus:  Not sealed but with no imperfections.

Excellent:  Imperfections are minor and barely noticeable.

Very Good++:  May exhibit light seam wear, random marks, or a tiny paper wrinkle, but with no seam splits or ring wear.

Very Good+:  May have small seam splits, especially at top and bottom edges, and evidence of seam wear, light creases, and other minor blemishes.  These blemishes will not detract significantly from the overall appearance of the over.  Note that all seam splits have been professionally repaired from the inside without tape.

Very Good:  May have larger seam splits, significant ring wear, loss of paper and environmental damage, and heavier creases.
