· COMMENTS / ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: ULTRA-RARE original private/DIY concept LP with a modern soul/Motown vibe from Los Angeles! Very groovy educational drama album featuring several killer Michael Jackson & The Jackson 5-style soul, soul-pop and funk numbers, sung by a very talented young Michael Jackson-inspired vocalist, Cjon Patterson (who later became a minister in Inglewood, California and sadly passed away in 2007 – he continued his career in music ministry and had a GREAT voice!). It presents an impressionistic (and often downright psychedelic!) musical journey following a young black boy's internal thoughts as he wakes up, heads off to camp, misses his family and eventually returns home, in an exploration of self-identity. Standout tracks include "Who Am I," "In My Reflection," "Crying Is O.K." and "I Am Someone No One Else Can Be". Punctuated between the musical numbers are eerie spoken-word segments w/ the young boy (“Tony” - performed by Patterson) speaking to himself in an echoed voice - very trippy and bizarre!

The album was written conceived by producer Erna Maurer, and the music and lyrics composed by singer/actress Laverne "Chip" Fields (member of Ronnie & The Ronettes – she sings the role of Tony’s mother here). Chip Fields’ daughter, Kim Fields (later known for her starring role in the ‘80s TV series, "Facts Of Life") performs the part of Tony’s sister. Included is a 4-page booklet (“A Guide For Teachers And Parents”) with teaching instructions and full lyrics. Housed in a cool silver foil-esque reflective cover (presumably for the young listener to “see” him or herself, to go along with the album’s theme)!!
