Type: I don't part with records regularly and this one was acquired at an auction house out of a lot of records I bought. Played it, Loved it and then researched it! Wow! What a story and what a RARE record.

So the Equatics (The band name came out of a chemistry class while studying atoms) were a high school band from Hampton VA (no surprise I found it locally in the auction house near Norfolk VA) that participated in a Pepsi sponsored competition and won in 1972. The prize was a chance at a record deal... so they had 100 original vinyl LP's pressed. Unfortunately at that time it didn't take off and the band broke up in 1973. This is where the fun begins, in 2005/6? a DJ in Chicago found one in a thrift store and while in terrible condition played it on air. It was well received to say the least and he started on a journey to find the members and see if he could find a way to put in on CD. So he tracked them down using the names on the back of the album and had a reunion of the band members, many of which hadn't seen each other in 30 years. He got his copies as they gave him two sealed records and they not only released the CD but also re-released the tracks on Vinyl.

In searching eBay the copies of the records that you find are these re-releases.... this one is not! This is one of the original 100 first pressed copies in remarkable condition for it's age. Search google and look up the story, I found it fascinating with far more detail on this 30 year later success story than provided here. This is a true rarity

Condition: Okay, the jacket has some minor issues, corner bump here and there, a small pop on the back and a smaqll split at bottom. Overall the color is bright, the printing crisp and considering the lack of others available it should please even them most discriminating collector. The record is nearly perfect, side B is virtually flawless, side A has a slight smudge on the last track and a surface scratch on the last track as well. I played it on a PL-530 Pioneer turntable connected to a Pioneer SX-1280 with A output to JBL-L100's and B Output to HPM-100's and it sounded flawless, there was a "pop" on the second track side A, but turned out to be a dust speck that had made it's way into the player I am guessing. I did gently wipe down the record prior to playing with a Discwasher on a clean sound guard mat after gently puffing with canned air. Beyond that it is in original as found condition and plays beautifully. I would keep it but this should be shared with a collector that will truly appreciate it. Photos tell the story. Please check images carefully and ask any questions.
