YOUR COMPLETE SATISFACTION IS GUARANTEED!

Most of you may know the story of the Beatles Butcher Cover, but a quick explanation of what this item's history is.  Offered here is a 3rd state Beatles Butcher Cover which means it was once one of the original record jackets produced with the banned "butcher" image.  Those are referred to as First-State Butcher Cover albums, and are very rare and command $4,000 plus for an average VG condition copy.

Due to the public backlash over the original image, Capitol Records authorized a trunk cover slick (the common Yesterday and Today album cover) pasted over the original image to cover it up and save the cost of an entirely new album jacket.  This resulted in what we call a 2nd-State Butcher Cover.

Our butcher being offered here has had the trunk cover professionally removed to reveal the original butcher cover image on the cover.  Hence, we have what is commonly called a 3rd-State Butcher Cover.

AUCTION SPECIFICS AND CONDITION:

THE COVER:

As stated, this is a rare original Scranton, Pennsylvania, Capitol Records Plant Beatles Butcher Cover.  These can be identified as such  in many ways.  The major indicator is the #3 near the RIAA symbol on the lower right rear of the cover.

These covers are different and unique from the more common #6 Los Angeles, CA cover.  The Scranton is a little darker blue, or purple in tint.  They are referred to as East Coast butchers and the slicks were produced by a company called Queens Litho.  The #6  LA Butcher slicks were produced by an entity called Bert & Co.  The records inside the Scranton jackets are thicker and heavier than an LA.  They were also re-pasted with a totally different glue and type of machine.  This resulted in different glue patterns between the two types of butchers.

This cover peeled quite well and presents itself in all its original glory.  The classic Scranton glue lines are lightly visible, but kept to a minimum.  The seams are all rock solid and intact which is difficult to find on a Scranton.  Why?  The spines on a Scranton are almost always split or cracked.  This was due to being glued with threads and a weave-like pattern through the paper that almost always dried out and cracked.  The weave-like pattern in the spine is unique to a Scranton, and is always somewhat visible in the paper.  THE SPINE ON THIS BUTCHER IS ROCK SOLID!  NO CRACKS ON THIS ONE! This cover has no splits or cracks in any of the seams!  There is some light balding on two lower corners from being slipped in and out of storage, but that is it!  All of the printing is there on the spine and is legible.

The back of the cover is a nice white with a mellow aged patina look.  All of the printing and Beatles album ads are clean and bold and show up very nicely.  There are no stains or writing on the back of the cover and it looks just great overall!  WAY ABOVE AVERAGE FOR WHAT YOU COMMONLY SEE!

A LITTLE BONUS:

Included with this butcher is a peeled Yesterday and Today album slick that would look great framed with this butcher.  It does have a tear in the upper right side, but does not deter from the slick if carefully presented.

The peel on this butcher was done by the master himself - Jim Hansen at Blue Jay Way Galleries - who is recognized as one of the world's leading butcher artists. The butcher cover will arrive with a UNIQUE - TO - YOUR -  BUTCHER CODED CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY SIGNED BY OUR BUTCHER ARTIST JIM HANSEN.

THE \RECORD:  THE RECORD WITH THIS BUTCHER IS REALLY NICE!

THE LP IS A FULL GLOSS VG+ OR BETTER ON THE VINYL (a lot of folks NM-) WITH TRUE NM RAINBOW LABELS. THERE ARE SOME MINOR NICKS AND SCUFFS IN THE VINYL - BUT IT IS GORGEOUS AND GLOSSY OVERALL. THE LP IS NOT NM, BUT IS WAY ABOVE AVERAGE FOR THIS TITLE! THESE ARE ABOUT AS DIFFICULT TO FIND NM AS A BUTCHER COVER ITSELF.  THIS LP HAS BEEN CLEANED ON A VPI RECORD CLEANER .  ALSO INCLUDED IS AN ORIGINAL ORANGE CAPITOL 66 INNER SLEEVE MAKING THIS A COMPLETE 1966 CAPITOL RECORDS YESTERDAY AND TODAY BUTCHER PACKAGE.
