Here's an original US PRESSING of DAVID BOWIE'S LP MAN OF WORDS/MAN OF MUSIC. It is a very rare record in any condition, and this is the FIRST US PRESS WITH GATEFOLD. This copy was pressed in 1969, upon original release. It's a fantastic playing example, the sound is beautiful. The cover has some ring wear on the front, and some handling wear. The cover has beautiful colors. Duncan decided to immortalize his name on this LP cover on the top of his hair in blue ink. The back cover has great colors too, but does have some moderate ring wear. The inside gatefold also retains beautiful colors, but has a touch of ring wear on the inner gatefold. The gatefold top has fully separated from the inside cover. A touch of glue could easily repair that. The Botton has separated from the opening by about 3", and again could be repaired or left alone. The spine is a little off kilter, probably from being on record shelf with not enough space between LP's, and it got pressed a little. There's a white line that runs along the spine on the cover side, and there's some pulling off of the paper from the seam in 3 places. Labels are beautiful. A couple marks on the vinyl, but the LP plays great wit definitely no pops skips or jumps. It's a great playing LP, with a small touch of background sound in a few places in the LP. A wonderful copy that's 50 years old now.
This was Bowie's second LP, but his first as what Bowie would become. It featured Rick Wakeman on Mellotron, and Tony Visconti who would prove to be a valuable partner and producer for Bowie. Although a beautiful LP, and very promising, it was a commercial failure, and hence the rarity of these records. Not an LP you'll see often at all.
