"Blood" by the Microphones (2001) LP, hand painted jacket - NEW. Condition is "New". Shipped with USPS Media Mail.
In the spring of 2001 as I was finishing up "the Glow pt. 2" and living in the Track House in Olympia, I got an interesting invitation from the people at Secretly Canadian (the label in Bloomington, Indiana that has now grown into a global mega-corp). They had all these surplus LP jackets taking up warehouse space and started a little side label called St. Ives in order to use them up. Small run LPs with inside out jackets that the artist would decorate in their own way, silkscreened, letterpressed, whatever. I loved the idea and agreed to press 300 copies of this record. Side A is made up of studio scraps and fragments from a handheld cassette recorder I kept around for ideas. Side B is a piano performance of alternate versions of mostly songs that would later be on "the Glow pt. 2". No big deal. The music is currently widely available on my bandcamp.
But the LPs are rare. We made 300. I painted most of the covers myself, set up at the kitchen table with india ink and water. Some of the covers were by friends who'd stop by. They sold out pretty quickly, and then later when the Glow pt. 2 became more popular it became a frequent question: "Do you have any copies of Blood?" but I never did. I kept a few in my personal archives.
So now this copy I'm selling is from the archive. I'm keeping my favorite one and selling the surplus three. This is the first of those. It's "new", meaning it's never been played. The cover is of course ragged because that's how it was made, a torn apart inside out LP jacket. But it is new. It's been in the archive for the last 20 years.
The painting on this one is clearly a "cover" of Vampire by Edvard Munch.
Thanks for looking here. Phil Elverum
