Robert W. "Rabon" Tarrant (December 25, 1908 – October 11, 1975)[1] was an American jump blues and jazz drummer, singer and songwriter. His most notable composition was "Blues with a Feeling", later recorded by Little Walter and many other musicians, becoming a blues standard.

Biography
Tarrant was born in Ennis, Texas. He later lived in Wichita Falls with his uncle,[1] who led a brass band. Tarrant played drums in bands led by banjoist Otis Stafford, and trumpeter Roy McCloud, before joining Lafayette Thompson's Golden Dragon Orchestra and touring with them in Colorado and Texas in the early 1930s. He also toured with Bert Johnson's Sharps and Flats.[2]

By the mid-1930s, he was based in California, where he played with Edith Turnham's Orchestra in San Diego, and then with Bert Johnson's brother Cee Pee Johnson's orchestra in Hollywood. He first recorded as the drummer with Jack McVea's orchestra in 1944.[3] Tarrant was occasionally credited on records from 1945, and became the vocalist on about one-third of the tracks recorded by McVea in the late 1940s.[2] Tarrant was the featured vocalist on McVea's version of "Open the Door, Richard", the first of many recordings of the novelty song, which reached number 2 on the R&B chart and number 3 on the Billboard pop chart in early 1947.[3][4] He also wrote for McVea's band, his songs including "Lonesome Blues," "Naggin' Woman Blues," and "Slowly Going Crazy Blues."[2] In early 1947, he recorded his composition "Blues with a Feeling" with McVea's band, and it was issued by Black & White Records.[3] Although not reaching any published charts, the song was successfully covered by Little Walter in 1953, and later by many other artists.[5]

Tarrant also led his own sessions from around 1945, on some of which his band included Charles Mingus (bass) and Lucky Thompson (tenor saxophone).[6][7] As Rabon Toren, he recorded with Charlie Whitfield in 1952.[1] From the early 1950s, Tarrant led his own band, which performed for the following two decades.[2]

Tarrant died in Huntington Park, California, in 1975.[1]

A Quick NOTE ON GRADING AND SHIPPING:

As you can see from my feedback, I try hard to earn your POSITIVE FEEDBACK and FIVE STAR RATINGS.

If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING.

Quick note on grading:

The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a give pressing.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.

US Domestic Shipping:

Here is a guideline for US Media Mail Shipping:

Prices below are for regular 78 rpm records. Up to about 5 records, I will ship Edison Discs for the same rates. Albums from Album Sets count as 1 record. Above that and for international shipments, it will be actual weight plus a small packing charge (1-3$ depending on size of shipment)

1 record: 4.75 – 5.50$

2 records: 6.50$

5 records: 8.00$

10 records: 12.00$

MANY MORE RECORDS: Don't worry. I safely ship 40 - 50 pounds of records double boxed in moving boxes, and even then Media Mail will probably not exceed 35$.

Please send me a message if you would like to get an estimate for you shipping rates!

I am very happy to ship records worldwide.

Please use the EBAY shipping cost only as a guideline. My actual charges are usually lower

One record usually ships for 25$ for 10" 25-35$ for most 12" records (Less for Canada).

As always, I would appreciate any suggestions and corrections from you, pls contact me with any question.

Thank you very much, and good luck bidding !!!
