OTIS SPANN LP CRYIN' TIME. This copy a 1970 US STEREO PRESSING on the VANGUARD LABEL CAT# VSD6514. The record was originally released in 1969. Spann came up as the piano player for Muddy Waters, and played the legendary Newport Jazz Festival in 1960. That was the set that opened the doors for other blues artists to record and tour, and was seen as THE pivotal moment in starting the blues revival to follow. Spann also played on one of the first great Rock LPs, Chuck Berry's After School Session- his debut. Spann played with so many great artists, and was a part of some legendary recordings. He's considered the greatest Chicago blues piano player. I might have to consider Memphis Slim and Pinetop Perkins in the mix as well, but certainly Spann was awesome. This is a mature Otis Spann, doing what he does best, and enjoying every minute. His enthusiasm on this recording shines through.. It's not down and out blues here, it's more of a revival. This was a time when he was witnessing the blues taking on a new shape, with Britt invasion bands as well as bands in the US taking from the blues and moving it in new directions. But he was an original, and a virtuoso at that. This is a cool blues LP.
COVER is VG++. It's in beautiful condition, with seams and spine in great shape. The front and back covers are beautiful as well, but the cover seems to fall just short of a NM grade.
VINYL is NM. A beautiful play, and the vinyl has full gloss. It plays practically as new.
OG INNER is VG+ with a 2" small seam split on bottom
VINYL--- NEAR MINT COVER - VG++ OG INNER VG+
