You are bidding on the rare Led Zeppelin II 1st pressing stereo LP with "RL” and “SS” on both sides . Issued in 1969. This is the rare Specialty Products pressing in very good++ condition. It’s the nicest copy I have ever seen/heard. I played it very loud several times to test before listing. All pictures were taken the day of the listing.
The LP has some surface hairline scratches and crackling during the quiet portions but is tolerable. Once the music starts all bets are off and it sounds incredible. There are no skips whatsoever. This album in this mix must be the most powerful Rock album ever recorded. The original gatefold cover is also in VG++ condition with no seam splits or stains. The top left of the front cover has a slight ding and there is a hairline pen mark on the top right side. Labels are super clean with no spindle marks or writing. Original inner sleeve included. The LP is stored separately in a MOFI sleeve. The cover is stored separately in a resealable sleeve This holy grail album will be very carefully double boxed for 100% protection during shipment. I ship USPS priority mail, insured and requiring signature on delivery. Please email me if you have any questions.
Good luck!
BACKGROUND ON LP
US 1st pressing (with the 1841 Broadway address on the labels), featuring Robert Ludwig's "hot" mastering on both sides. These were withdrawn early because the high bass levels caused low-grade cartridges to mistrack, leading people to return the album on the belief that it was defective. Another engineer was then hired to recut a much less "hot" version of the album, and that is the far more common version.
On some copies the Sterling Sound credit, "SS", appears in both runouts following Ludwig's "RL", and on others the "SS" appears only in the Side Two runout. The "RL" will still appear in both runouts.
Comes in a gatefold sleeve.
"Led Zeppelin II" - the ROBERT LUDWIG CUT!
For those who aren't aware, the earliest pressings of 'Led Zeppelin II' were mastered by legendary mastering engineer Robert Ludwig. Ludwig cut the album with such tremendous bass that the average record buyer's cheap turntable couldn't handle it, leading many to erroneously return their copies as defective. Atlantic Records responded by having another, less talented, engineer re-cut the album, thereby sucking all the power out of it! Most every copy of "Led Zeppelin II" one will come across was pressed from the latter cut, while only the very earliest pressings contain Ludwig's
