For sale is this beautiful vintage vinyl LP of ELVIN JONES & RICHARD DAVIS - HEAVY SOUNDS on Impulse! Records 1968. This wonderful copy is the 1968 UK 1st Stereo Pressing. It features a Garrod and Lofthouse sleeve with laminated front, 3 flip-backs and unlaminated reverse and really fantastic cover art. The catalogue number is Impulse! SIPL 513. The matrices are as follows:
Side One - SIPL 513 A-1 Side Two - S1PL 513 B-1
Condition*:
The sleeve is VG+. The laminated front cover has very light wear. There is some creasing to the bottom L/H corner. There is a faint impression of the disc visible when held up to the light. There is only light wear to the edges, spine and corners. The unlaminated reverse side is very clean with few signs of handling and little wear. Overall a great sleeve with few flaws.
The disc is EX. The surface is glossy and dark. Under harsh light there are a few light marks but only a few and nothing deep enough to intrude into the audio. The labels are near perfect. The disc has been played through from start to finish and plays flawlessly with very little surface or crackle. Overall a wonderful first pressing of this sought-after Jazz LP.
Thanks for looking! If this item interests you why not have a look at my other listings? This record is one of a number I was lucky to acquire recently, all from the archive of a single fastidious collector, many of which I will be listing in the coming days taking in Jazz, Blues and Folk including several more stunning 1st Pressings. Please feel free to make use of the "MAKE OFFER" button - I won't mind at all.
*Please note: Grading vinyl is a highly subjective thing. For this reason I have given a detailed description of all the flaws I was able to see or hear. I am not a professional. I am just selling a small number of records. I have given an honest appraisal based on careful visual inspection and thorough play testing. I do try to describe all significant faults and where possible photograph them and I certainly won't intentionally hide anything. Please read the description carefully, look at the pictures and make your own mind up. The grading scale I have used goes from G to NM with VG+ as par. In other words: Good (G), Very Good (VG), Very Good+ (VG+), Excellent (EX) and Near Mint (NM). Anything better than that would be Mint and would be listed as new. Anything worse than Good I probably wouldn't be selling.
