DURAN DURAN “Rio” RARE U.S. 1st Press On Harvest Records (not Capitol) NM All!

A RARE 1st Press NM promo copy distributed to stores on release. Has the original Harvest labels and pressed at the Capitol L.A. pressing plant. The vinyl looks pristine and probably never played. The cover has tiny (and I mean tiny) bottom edge shelf wear and a corner ding. The cover has a hole punch at the top right corner. The full color shiny inner sleeve has band photo with credits on one side, and song lyrics in the other. The sleeve has no seam splits or major creases. Th hole punch is present on the sleeve as well. This has to be one of the finest original U.S. 1st Press copies (evidenced by the Harvest Label) available for purchase.

The second studio album for the group. Huge initial success in Europe, but the original album mixes did not catch fire in the U.S. and three tracks on the album were remixed with reluctant approval by the band. The very first release was on Harvest, and the later album with the remixed tracks was on Capitol. Subsequent huge singles: “Rio”, “Hungry Like The Wolf” and “Save A Prayer” blasted on the radio with non-stop video play on MTV. Ultimately over 2 million copies were sold in the U.S. alone. To have a pristine 42 year old copy of the first edition on Harvest is a rare thing, and would be a jewel for your collection.
