For sale is this scarce vintage vinyl LP of JACK ELLIOTT - TALKING WOODY GUTHRIE on Topic Records 1963 in wonderful condition.
Ramblin' Jack Elliott's impression of Woody Guthrie was arguably a greater influence on the early Bob Dylan than Guthrie himself. Many of the recordings on this collection predate Dylan's earliest recordings by years but the similarity of style between this and the first two Dylan albums is striking. Even as late as 1988 when Dylan recorded Pretty Boy Floyd for the Folkways Woody Guthrie Tribute his version is an almost exact copy of the one Jack Elliott plays on this record. Jack toured with Bob on the 1975 Rolling Thunder Revue and I believe the two men are still friends today. This disc is the 1963 Topic Records 1st pressing of this wonderful and very influential LP with the catalogue number TOPIC 12 T 93. The matrices are:
Side One - 288-1-1WMH,     Side Two - 288-2 -2WMH
Condition*:
The sleeve is conservatively graded VG+. The laminated front is very clean. Very little wear to the surface, edges and corners. There is slight creasing in the top R/H corner. The unlaminated back is also very clean with only very slight wear. Overall a really great sleeve for its age.
The disc is EX. The surface has a dark glossy lustre and looks as if it has probably only been played a handful of times. Under the harshest light there are only a few very light marks and hairlines visible. The labels are also immaculate. This record has been played through from start to finish and plays faultlessly with only slight occasional crackle. Overall a really wonderful copy of this hugely enjoyable Ramblin' Jack Elliott record.
Thanks for looking. If this item interests you why not have a look at my other listings? This record is one of a number I was lucky to acquire recently, all from the archive of a single fastidious collector, many of which I will be listing in the coming days taking in Jazz, Blues and more Folk including early Bob Dylan records, Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, and many stunning rare 1st Pressings. Please feel free to make use of the "MAKE OFFER" button - I won't mind at all.

*Please note: Grading vinyl is a highly subjective thing. I am not a professional. I am just selling a small number of records. I can only give an honest appraisal based on careful visual inspection and thorough play testing. I do try to describe all significant faults and I certainly won't intentionally hide anything. Please read the description carefully, look at the pictures and make your own mind up. The grading scale I have used  goes from G to NM with VG+ as par. In other words: Good (G), Very Good (VG), Very Good+ (VG+), Excellent (EX) and Near Mint (NM). Anything better than that would be Mint and would be listed as new. Anything worse than Good I probably wouldn't be selling.
