German group from Witten, found in 1969 by bassist/singer Peter Josefus, drummer Stefan Josefus and guitarist Mick Hannes, originally named Franz Kafka. In their early years Franz Kafka played Heavy/Blues Rock in the vein of Cream, Jimi Hendrix and Ten Years After with a strong Politik Rock component in the vein of Ton Steine Scherben or Checkpoint Charlie. By the time of their first album ''Sensemann'' the trio had found their way into the Kraut Rock style. This was released privately in 1972 in a limited number of copies with a handmade cover, re-released the same year on Phillips with a different one.

The album consists of two sidelong tracks, clocking at nearly or over 20 minutes, of aggresive Heavy/Kraut Rock with plenty of groovy parts and improvised perfomances. The opening eponymous track is a mix of hypnotic Psychedelic Rock with powerful and loose Kraut Rock, featuring Josefus' distorted voices and evident influences from the band's more bluesy side on the lyrical parts, where Hendrix'es inspirations are still apparent, but the instrumental ones are strongly rooted in Kraut Rock with frenetic rhythms and endless solos, offering tons of fuzzy guitar playing. The second track, entitled ''Das goldene Reich'', opens with powerful fuzzy guitars, which last until its middle part, in a total orgasm of supernatural Psych/Kraut Rock with some superb guitar breaks. By the middle enter Josefus' vocals, the guitars though remain the driving force until the drum solo of Stefan Josefus. A growing groove based on Josefus' voice will lead to an energetic section with Hannes' guitars again on the forefront.

Not genuine, neither groundbreaking, but this is still powerful and energetic Psych/Kraut Rock of good quality. For lovers of fuzzy guitar adventures and beyond. (apps79/ rateyourmusic.com)
