AN INCREDIBLE, ARCHIVE-QUALITY EXAMPLE with AN INCREDIBLE HERITAGE - EVERY COLLECTOR'S DREAM!!
Wow! Here we have one of the most sought-after British Blues-related LPs from the UK, chiefly because it includes 3 tracks from Eric Clapton & The Powerhouse!
The Powerhouse was formed with the full intention of being a short-lived studio project. In 1965 and 1966, American record producer Joe Boyd was in the process of opening a London office for Elektra Records and was looking for some British talent to feature on the first release from the label's local division; a sampler compilation album. Manfred Mann's singer Paul Jones suggested putting together an all-star band to mark the occasion. The tracks featured on this awesome disc are "I Want To Know", "Crossroads" and "Steppin' Out". Of course, the second and third of which were Clapton 'staples' from his time with THE CREAM and JOHN MAYALL'S BLUESBREAKERS respectively!!!
The band starred Eric Clapton (on guitar), and featured Paul Jones (harmonica) and Jack Bruce (bass) from Manfred Mann, Steve Winwood (vocals) and Pete York (drums) from the Spencer Davis Group, and Ben Palmer (piano) who had previously played with Clapton and Jones as a member of The Roosters.
As if that's not enough for you to want to own this nugget, there are blistering performances from THE PAUL BUTTERFIELD BLUES BAND, AL KOOPER, THE LOVIN' SPOONFUL and TOM RUSH!!!
This incredible and early 'FILE COPY' came from the collection of the late CHARLES FOX; a Jazz critic who for many years lodged at the house of the legendary ALEXIS KORNER. It's hard to imagine that Charles would have been sent this disc for review (as it wasn't in his 'genre' and would he otherwise have been interested in owning it?) so, perhaps, it might have belonged to Alexis and then subsequently found its way into one of Charles' boxes by mistake??? Who knows......
So, bid now to win this gem or, after the auction has ended, you can sit back in your chair and wonder how you managed to let this MONSTER BLUES RARITY pass you by!!! Of course, you could always settle for a later pressing, one of the cheap repros that have kicked around for a few years now or, if digital is your 'bag', a CD - God forbid......
Use the Auctionplayer to sample for yourself just how amazing this LP truly is!!!
As you'll see from the photo, this is unconditionally guaranteed to be the ORIGINAL 1966 UK 'FILE COPY' pressing made with machine-stamped matrices, so you can forget about having to settle for one of those dodgy so-called "limited re-pressings" (many of which are actually bootlegs) that are flooding the market.
A TRULY fantastic and legendary LP, any fan of Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, the R&B and Blues scenes or 60s music in general will simply have to have this item in their collection!!!!
Grade (labels): As can be seen from the photo, the FIRST EDITION GOLD labels have a 'FILE COPY' stamp and I have no way of knowing if that was the way the distributor noted copies intended not for sale. The labels are free from wear and spindle trails!!!
Grade (vinyl): Housed within its original polylined inner bag, this vinyl masterpiece is jaw-droppingly beautiful and strictly graded at MINT minus; just a couple of tiny and feint lines seemingly from withdrawal from the bag. Sitting perfectly flat on the turntable, the deep-grooved platter has a glorious sheen and plays wonderfully loud and clear throughout. Of course, with the hyper-sensitivity of modern styli and amplifiers, any lucky winning bidder would need to accept the possibility of a near 50-year old hunk of used vinyl producing a touch of general noise and static here and there. The stampers, as provided further up this listing, are early!!!! Good luck in finding another one of these nuggets......... they just do NOT turn up very often in this shape!!!!
Grade (sleeve): The original unlaminated semi-gloss sleeve is in overall EXCELLENT ++++ shape!! As can be seen from the pictures, the reverse has a 'FILE COPY' label with a hand-inked reference number.
Why buy?: This is an absolute MONSTER of a BLUES gem and always so incredibly sought-after!! Truly a KILLINGLY RARE LP and ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND in ANY condition, don't miss this incredible example as it might be your only chance to buy an ORIGINAL 1966 UK LP FIRST 'FILE COPY' pressing of "What's Shakin'" by Various Artists in awesome condition!!!
Don't forget: Look to see if I have other rare items on auction at the present time.
Check out my feedback and be sure of a great product and service. Happy bidding!!!
BEFORE you bid, please read the following Payment and Shipping terms very carefullyand, quite simply, don't make a bid if you're not happy with them:
Payment: UK cheques or UK direct bank transfers greatly preferred. Of course, PayPal is accepted but bidders must accept the associated, non-negotiable shipping terms as stated below in "Shipping".
Shipping: Kindly note that the STAMP cost that appears on the label outside of a package absolutely does NOT represent the actual cost of shipping an item!!! For example, each item I sell is carefully packaged inside a PVC sleeve, with factory-cut cardboard stiffeners either side and (to ensure the item arrives in the condition it leaves) shipped individually in a brand new record mailer; unlike some other sellers I do NOT use poor packaging with scrap cardboard - or worse still NO cardboard - inside!
I cannot accept any responsibility for payments/items lost or damaged and not covered by adequate insurance. If you do insist on using PayPal through the eBay checkout, the consequence of PayPal's rigid conditions is that all items must be sent by an adequately insured shipping method with proof of delivery; no exceptions. IMPORTANT: FREE P&P TO UK ADDRESSES (AS REGISTERED WITH PAYPAL) WILL INCLUDE 2ND CLASS RECORDED DELIVERY. THE OFFER RELATES ONLY TO AUCTION ITEMS ENDING AT A VALUE BELOW £51 AND, ABOVE THAT VALUE, THE BUYER WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EXPENSE OF SPECIAL DELIVERY P&P (cost £10.95). For overseas buyers it will mean International Signed-For Airmail for any value. Shipping cost to European Union countries will be £14.95 and all other countries £19.95. Due to PayPal seller policies and Royal Mail compensation limits, items above a value of £500 will have to be shipped by international courier at a cost to be determined, based upon final value and destination.
I do NOT allow personal collection.
Note: I'm just a private individual selling off his private record collection gathered over 30+ years. I am NOT a business!!! I unreservedly retain the right to cancel bids from known defaulters or timewasters. The items I offer for auction are rare and of the highest quality, so please bid with respect!!
