This auction is for my spare copy of the first state test pressing of Coil’s Wrong Eye/Scope (Shock SX002, originally released in 1990). I think there were 5 copies in total, two going to Geff and Sleazy, one to Sav X, and I kept two.

The auction includes an original letter (in pencil) from Geff Rushton with information he wanted on the cover and run-outs, part of our correspondence about this release.

There are also a couple of Coil stickers included.

There were four versions of this test pressing, this is the first. This one was rejected due to the pressing plant polishing the metalwork, causing the record to sound crackly and distorted. When we complained their answer was ‘It’s not possible to make music like this sound right’. They’ve been out of business for some time.

Following George/Porky’s intervention it was re-cut and sent to another pressing plant. After three further test pressings it was finally approved and the record released. It was supposed to be the second Shock release but due to the production problems the C93 & NWW records preceded it…

So this version does not sound like the final release! This copy might be unplayed but don’t expect high fidelity from a rejected test pressing. Please be aware of its lo-fi nature. It’s being sold as a document, not as a regular release.

Condition:

The record has likely not been played but it’s a bit dusty and will doubtless sound crackly due to the damaged metalwork from which it was produced. The plain black paper sleeve is the original, and is a bit worn & creased.

The letter has been folded across the centre & is slightly aged & slightly creased around the edges. But it’s nothing terrible, and it’s a nice part of the project.

The stickers are slightly creased & worn but both are unused.
