Limited edition LP on 180-gram vinyl. 2013 reissue. Rarely is one new album release so influential that it changes the face of modern music, but that is exactly what The Allman Brothers Band's self-titled release did in 1969. Fusing rock, blues, jazz and even hints of the gospel tradition, they created southern rock. It became a sound that is emulated to this day. Oddly enough, there were only 50,000 copies of the original album sold, but musicians and critics took note. The biggest attention grabber was Gregg Allman's "Whipping Post." In spite of it's slow start, "The Allman Brothers Band" did break into the Billboard 200 at #188. Now the album is so studied that it has been remastered from the original tapes at half speed and cut into 180-gram audiophile vinyl for a special limited edition release.
