Shaun is ill and has been in the Northern General Hospital for almost 4 months, waiting for a liver transplant. Shaun is self-employed, so this enforced and lengthy stay in hospital is making a shitty situation even shittier. Mongrels are (emcee) Kid Acne and (deejay) Benjamin. The duo joined forces through a shared love of hip-hop and graffiti in the mid 1990s, back when Benjamin was making pause-button tapes on a pair of belt-drive decks and young Kid Acne was a spotty teenager. They self-released their first 7" 'Slingshots' in 1997 before becoming part of a larger recording collective known as Toah Dynamic, releasing two studio albums and a string of EPs. Mongrels’ follow-up 7" came in the form of 'Fresh Arrangements' in 2002. This era also saw the release of three Kid Acne solo albums ('Rap Traffic', 'Council Pop' and 'Romance Ain't Dead') with Benjamin deejaying while they toured UK and Europe supporting the likes of Flying Lotus, EL-P and Antipop Consortium. In 2008 they went on a hiatus. Recently, they returned. And in July 2016, they released their first LP 'Attack the Monolith'.
