Hello everyone,I'm having another purge as I continue to downsize my collection of some 60+ years and, as a result, I will be listing many 78rpm jazz records over the coming weeks. Some will be New Orleans and others will be  Dance Band and Swing recorded from the 1920s and 30s,40s & 50s.
Below are the details and condition of the 3 Ellington records.
Columbia  DC 607         Bensonality                 /  SMADA   Featuring Jimmy Hamilton.     As below
Columbia  DC 602         V.I.P.'S Boogie            /  Jam With Sam                                         Lovely clean record with only very small imperfections. Very quiet replay. Stunning performance from the most creative jazz orchestra...ever!
Columbia  DC 573         The Hawk Talks          /  Fancy Dan                                               As above.
Capitol      CL 13974      Bluejean Beguine      /  Warm Valley                                              This record is a freebie. It has some lines and scuffs but still plays very quietly. It has a wobble when playing but not to concern the stylus.          All stiff cardboard sleeves are in very good plus condition. All the Columbia records play beautifully, with no distortion and  barely detectable background noise. All are black, shiny and dead flat.
One has to appreciate that most vintage recordings, many near 100 years old, will have some background noise, often associated with the original recording and sometimes as a result of wind-up grams or ill matched styli. I now play my 78s on a Goldring GL72 deck with a proper conical / spherical diamond 2.5mil profile stylus plus valve amplification. It keeps down the background noise and brings out the best of the recordings using hardware that was of the accepted pairing of the post war day. Wind-up grams are even more authentic, look great and have that wonderful nostalgic sound...but they don't half destroy the discs quickly. These recordings have a very quiet background, as silent as a 78rpm can be.
My diamond stylus is only good for 200 hours, whereas a sapphire stylus is only good for a mere 80 hours and a ceramic one for even less. One can spend a fortune on stereo play equipment and skimp for 78s but I've found that it's pound foolish.
This small selection offers as good a play as you are likely to hear, quiet and without any nasties of any description. Dissatisfied? - I'm sure you won't be, but I always offer a money back guarantee.  This is a lovely quartet of music from the best   performer of his day. the Duke was at the top for half a century.
All records will be bubble wrapped and dispatched in a purpose made cardboard record mailer.
