An original 1st press of Zep II on the UK Red & Plum Atlantic label. Matrix A2/B2. Please note the side 2 label mentions 'Lemon Song' - and this is indicative of 1st press. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original light-brown Ernest J Day cover. If your cover is darker brown it is not 1st or is some sort of switch. 1st is LIGHT-BROWN. Also included is the original inner sleeve dated to "/129"...which is code for December 1969. So, 100% complete and 100% genuine.
Vinyl (Ex+/Ex-) In excellent condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection there are a few light marks - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly "EX/EX+" level of playback, but not exclusively. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. Whilst not faultless this example is certainly around the level that a serious collector would find appealing. It's no surprise that the audio is very very impressive - these copies are sought after for that very reason. They deliver great dynamics which are quite frankly lacking on later copies. Thankfully, this copy has not seen excessive mileage and delivers audio that will impress. Interference is minor and only really audible in a couple of tracks. Side 1- between Ex/Ex+ for the most part and nice and clean, but there is light static creeping in on 'Thankyou' - only really audible in the quieter sections of that track. This is, however, still relatively minor and in no way invasive. On Side 2 - between Ex/Ex+ for the most part and nice and clean, but light static just audible in 'Bring It On Home' - only noticeable, really, in the harmonica intro. Again, not invasive but just audible in the back ground.
Cover (Vg+) In great shape and has clearly been looked after down the years. These original Zep II covers really are one of THE most difficult to find in top condition. First thing to mention is that the cover seems to have avoided the usual ageing process and there isn't the usual heavy signs of wear that are commonly found. The front is very nice and clean apart from that edge just a long the spine - bit of discolouration there. The rear is in equally good condition without heavy wear - well above average. The interior is pretty much spot on. Edge wear is mostly very light with just a touch more on the spine as is common. Do not expect to be able to read all the text on the spine. Also please note the cover has taken a knock down in the bottom left corner - so do expect some undulations there. Overall a very impressive genuine original example.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing and a two inch side split.
