180G Classic Records (Mike Hobson) LP pressing of Dar William's first LP. Remixed version with the following text on the rear of the sleeve

The mixes on this LP are "audiophile remixes" which differ at times from the original mixes. Vintage analog equipment was used to remix from the original analog multi-track tapes. Eight songs were mixed on a Neeve mixing console down from 8 tracks to 1/2" analog tape pm a Studer A80 tape deck by Paul Dugre. The remaining three songs "Alleluia", "Traveling Again" and "When Sal's Burned Down" were remixed from the original 24 track tape by Rik Pekonnen in Ocean Way Studio 3 (where the Beach Boys recorded Pet Sounds) on a vintage Neeve console. The quality of the equipment used for the remixes has the effect of enhancing nuances in the recording that would otherwise be inaudible and hence contribute to the minor variations between these and other mixes. -- Mike Hobson"

This, Dar Williams' first full-length album, was originally released on her own private label and was then picked up by the tiny but prestigious indie folk label Waterbug Records. In its Razor & Tie incarnation, The Honesty Room is a bit more rocked-up, which, frankly, has generally proven to be a good thing for the music of Dar Williams. Although she is a lyricist of striking originality and endearing humor, and although she can craft a hooky tune with the best of them, there's still a certain preciousness that creeps in when she's not being careful -- she has always sung with the light, fluttery consonants and flattened vowels that make so many of today's female singer/songwriters sound like 13-year-olds, and when that vocal approach combines with an unaccompanied acoustic guitar and lines like "Once upon a time there was a nuclear family," well, it's hard not to let your eyes roll. But on the other hand, when an all-out rock song combines a gorgeous singalong melody with lyrical references to Ronald Reagan and Sid Vicious in the very first line, you know you've stumbled across something very special, and you tend not to notice the quirks of delivery so much. And then there's "The Babysitter's Here," a song that manages to deal simultaneously with early childhood and incipient adulthood, and it will make you bawl every time you hear it.
The "Rock The House" series of LPs issued by Classic Records in the mid-1990s have some of the most impossible titles to find and acquire from their catalog. These titles were very short lived and left many collectors and music lovers scrambling to find their copy! Most collectors and even references don't even list these records as being produced simply due to the fact that they are so rare. This is one such title. Don't wait too long to get these LPs as supplies are disappearing fast (this is our LAST ONE). When they are gone, they are gone forever and we all know what that means insofar as (increasing) prices are concerned.

Wie einige Audiophile sich bewusst sind, klang Classic Record LP Titel, die auf 180 Gramm Vinyl (oder weniger Gewicht) ausgegeben wurden, viel besser als die späteren 200 Gramm Versionen des gleichen Titels. Anscheinend hat dies mit den Vinylpressen zu tun, die verwendet wurden, um die LPs zu machen, wenn sie auf 200 Gramm Vinyl umgestellt wurden. Diese Maschinen wurden nie eingerichtet, um die extra dicken, 200 Gramm Platten von Vinyl zu behandeln. Und um einfach von 180 auf 200 zu schlagen, war es sehr problematisch. Das Vinyl war laut. Es gab dringende Mängel. Alles in allem ein minderwertiges Produkt im Vergleich zu dem etwas weniger schweren, aber viel besser klingenden 180 Gramm Vinyl. Classic Records kam mit allen Arten von Varianten für ihre 200 Gramm Pressungen - erinnern Sie sich das alles? Wenn du diese Periode gelebt hast, fragst du dich wahrscheinlich, warum es so viele Versionen derselben Musik gab, die von der gleichen Firma in etwas anderen Vinyl-Gebräu gemacht wurde! Es war einfach, dass die 200 Gramm-Versionen den früheren Pressungen auf 180 Gramm Vinyl unterlegen waren. Dies ist der Grund, warum die 180 Gramm-Versionen nicht nur viel mehr kosten, um jetzt zu erwerben, aber sie taten in der Tat viel besser. Als Sammler werden Sie wahrscheinlich versuchen, ein paar Versionen selbst zu sehen, ob Audiophile sich einfach vorstellen würden, was sie hörten - das ist Ihre Chance, einen solchen Titel zu erwerben.
