An original 1st press of 'Hunky Dory' on the UK RCA label from 1971. Matrix 3T/3T - very 1st cut. The genuine 1st press of this title as identified by the etchings...."Bobil + Rasputin". Bear in mind that when this Lp was released at Xmas in 1971 Bowie was still relatively unknown. He'd have to wait till the following year and the advent of STARDUST for the big time. Consequently these early pressings, that pre-date the big-time for Bowie, are much harder to find. The record is a lovely heavy RCA pressing with the original Titanic publishing credits. Now, please also bear in mind that very early variations of this Lp can be found with a laminated cover. This particular example comes housed in a non-laminated cover which was also available at 1st release. We have the original generic white inner sleeve and the original orange-brown lyrics sheet. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex-/Ex+) In beautiful condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks either side, and one small heavier mark which sounds [detail below]. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with two deviations. The audio delivered from this early copy is to die for....deep lush and with bags of transparency. Intros and inbetweens are pretty much silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. A beautiful rendition with two issues one of which dips below the given grading. A couple of ticks during "Eight Line Poem" and then, in the intro to Quicksand, a mark causes a click per revolution for the first forty seconds. Barring this issue the remainder of the LP plays supremely well with top-level clarity. So, weight it up in the round..if you can live with that one significant issue the rest of the LP will absolutely knock-you-out.
Cover (Vg+) Very difficult to find in top condition due to the way it was manufactured. But this example is pretty tidy condition. The front is clean and unaged and does not exhibit the heavy creasing or surface wear as is often found. The rear looks great too - no issues. Edge wear is relatively light with just a bit along the bottom edge. There's just a touch of wear in a couple of spots on the spine and the artist name is partially obscured . Overall the cover still retains very good rigidity.
Lyric Sheet (Ex) In very nice shape - no issues at all.
Inner (Vg) Light ageing and side splits have been taped up.
