An original 1st mono press of White Album on the UK Apple. Matrix 1/1/1/1. Please note ALL labels are "MONO"...ALL mention 'SOLD IN THE UK..'..ALL omit "Emi Recording..". This is perfectly consistent with the very 1st iteration possible for the 'WHITE ALBUM' in November 1968. Judging by the stamped number on the cover I would expect that this copy was probably sold to a buyer who pre-ordered it - and collected it in the first couple of days following 1st release..That is GREAT provenance. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original top-loading cover [per 1st issue]. Also included are both original black inner sleeves with die-cut opening and exposed flipbacks, the original high-quality thick-paper photos, and what looks to me like a poster/lyric sheet from the 70's [I don't think it's an original '68 poster].
Vinyl (Vg/Vg+) Has seen a moderate level of use but it remains very impressive condition, particularly from an audio perspective. Do expect a good few marks either side - but I think I can only spot a couple of feelable ones and they are pretty small. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly VERYGOOD+ with a few deviations. By and large a very nice and pretty clean rendition. Intros and inbetweens are mostly nice and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. Even in a lot of those low-key tracks on the white apple sides I was still thoroughly impressed at how it could still deliver a warm, detailed relatively clean rendition. This record is not going to hit the top grades though.....so please thoroughly consider the following deviations to make sure its within your threshold of acceptability...Firstly, expect a bit of static sporadically in a couple of tracks per side. Expect a couple of ticks in, usually, one track per side. The only place where this is invasive is the opening 5 seconds of Back The USSR..There's a feelable mark which causes a couple of big pops as the jet engine sound comes in. It's right at the start and over very very quickly [the best way!]. I think I'm correct in saying that there was only one track on the whole album where I felt that there was some background and it 'interferred/invaded' the listening experience - 'Good Night'..Personally I can live with that...But you need to be sure you're ok with this and the other issues I have mentioned. I have to say, in summary, that this early mono is a real testament to just how good the pressing quality was in '68. I really enjoyed the album from start to finish and didn't feel that there was anything that significantly impaired the listening experience/enjoyment level.
Cover (Vg+) Ok, so this is one of the 1st 40,000 copies and THAT in itself is quite impressive. Thankfully, this is not one of those battered early copies. THIS example has survived the years in very rude health. The cover has avoided much of the usual ageing process. Back and front are clean with only a couple of minor creases showing either side. The interior looks really sweet - all I can spot is one very minor sticker residue mark in the top left corner. The spine is a bit grubby, but is intact..so don't expect too much there. These early covers were constructed of very heavy-card and I'm pleased to report this example feels very solid and has superb rigidity. Nice!!
Lyric/Poster Sheet (Ex) Pretty much perfect. Sharp edge. No tears. Remember - this is not the '68 original!
Inners (Vg/Ex-) One Inner is unsplit..and hence Ex-. The other has a two inch edge split and a one inch edge split.
Photos (Ex/Ex+) Quality!!! Pretty much perfect. No creasing or ageing.
