It's a little crazy: it's one of the best-selling albums in music history, but it doesn't even have a real title. There is nothing on the cover of Led Zeppelin's fourth album, no album title, not even the name of the band. The predecessor, "Led Zeppelin III", was anything but well received by the critics, because the band had already been put in all sorts of boxes that the album did not want to fit into. After a year of studio break, the men from Led Zeppelin wanted to take the pressure off of expectations by publishing the new album anonymously, so to speak. The trick was rewarded: sales for "Led Zeppelin IV" skyrocketed, critics overturned, and with songs "Black Dog" or "Rock And Roll" it contains some of the most famous Zeppelin songs with "Stairway To Heaven" “Maybe the ultimate rock ballad par excellence. Had already indicated the third album that Led Zeppelin was a brilliant rock song smithy of the extra class, on the fourth album it became official.

In the 1960s and 70s, bands and labels ticked even faster. Led Zeppelin released one LP after the other in their early years. Three long players within 15 months is breathtaking by today's standards. Since Led Zeppelin also performed frequently, all the songs for the first six albums were created between 1968 and summer 1972.

The LPs "I" and "II" were commercially successful and extremely successful in their charts. "III" did not get off well in the press and also among the fans. The LP quickly topped the charts in the US and the UK, but sales dropped sharply after an initial high. Somehow Led Zeppelin was resented that not every album was and sounded the same. This upset Jimmy Page, who then did not speak to the press for two years. And it resulted in the fourth album being released without a title and without any accompanying texts.

Therefore there are several titles for »IV«: »Zoso«, »Four Symbols« or simply »Untitled«. From today's perspective, many Led Zeppelin fans consider the fourth album to be the best of the band. The absolute sales figures confirm this: It is in 3rd place among the best-selling albums of all time in the USA. »IV« is a perfect mix of hard and soft, light and dark. With »Stairway To Heaven« it contains the most famous Led Zeppelin number, while »Black Dog« is the essence of what made the individual musicians of Led Zeppelin.

In interviews, Jimmy Page does not take good care of the first versions of Led Zeppelin's albums, which were released in the mid-1980s. In his opinion, the sound is too undifferentiated, since the CDs were produced from poorly mixed versions of the songs. This does not meet the quality requirements of a world-class band. And since the possibilities of remastering for all formats are highly developed today, the wait was absolutely worth it.

Under the aegis of CLASSIC RECORDS, the ANALOGUE prepared, newly mixed version of »IV« was created. The basis of the re-issues are the original analogue studio tapes from 1970 / 71. When remastering, the guiding principle for CLASSIC RECORDS was that the albums were recorded for vinyl at the time and that there are now a variety of record formats that are all justified and which the remaster should therefore do justice.

in German Language: ............
