An original Atlantic Red & Plum Zep II from Xmas 1971. Matrix A2/B2 - absolute 1st cut. Note how 'Lemon Song' is still showing on side 1. This, along with the matrix A2/B2, is indicative of 1st issue. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original Ernest J day cover. Note that colouring is a lighter brown than the dark brown covers of later '70/71. Also included is the original 'plastic bag warning' inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) A beautiful copy that has only seen light use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. So, you wanna hear Zep II....the definitive rendition? Well, you definitely need to snag an early red & plum...but whatever you do make sure it's a clean one. Don't think Zep II is forgiving - there's plenty of low-key sections. If it's not clean you won't hear the vocal echoes and Jimmy's intricate guitar work. I can assure you that there really is NO better way to take in those thunderous guitar tracks than on a copy like this. By and large a lovely clean player even in those quiet sections. When "on song" this copy will happily match nearly all the best copies out there. Even fussy tracks like 'Bring It On Home'....play really nice and quiet. Expect a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side. . tis easy to see why Zep took the world by storm off the back of Zep II. Don't short change yourself - get a GREAT copy.
Cover (Vg+) A real nightmare trying to find these early covers in top level condition. This example is still looking very sound has clearly been looked after. On the front just the lightest evidence of wear - way better than what you usually tend to find. On the rear just a bit of surface wear - which is almost impossible to avoid. The interior is immaculate - very impressive. Edge wear is pretty light and even the openings are still sharpish. The spine is looking very nice indeed with just a bit of light wear. All text still mostly legible. The only thing I can criticise is that the base of the spine has taken a knock. It looks fine - just expect a bit of slight compression there. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Ex-) Lightest ageing. But no splits.
