An original and very 1st press of WTB on the UK Parlophone label. Matrix 2/2 - very 1st cut. The labels mention 'Parlophone' in the perimeter text and 'recording 1st pub' is still present too. Note that the mention of 'Stereo' on the labels is in large font - this is as it should be at very 1st issue. As everyone is quite aware of by now WTB 1st pressings are easily identified by the Jobete publishing which was altered soon after 1st release. It probably doesn't need mentioning, but do bear in mind that in November 1963 the stereo format was still very scarcely used. Which makes this WTB 1st stereo pressing one of the rarer Beatles pressings to track down. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original E J Day cover - as you would expect for 1963. We also have the original Emitex inner sleeve. So, we're 100% genuine and 100% complete. Sweet!
Vinyl (Ex-/Vg+) In nice condition considering the vintage - but has seen a lot of use. Now, if you're someone who needs clean surfaces - this record will not be for you. A prospective buyer will need to properly understand the rarity aspect of this particular pressing - and be able/happy to compromise on looks. If you can compromise on looks - the audio and rarity aspect of this example will more than make up for it. So, ..yes there are many [a lot] light marks - mostly bag-rash superficial type stuff [But it is very visible to the observer]. However, nothing heavy or likely to impinge all that much on the audio. Remember, these '63 copies were pressed heavy and much of the original audio is still present without annoying background. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly NEAREXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of minor deviations per side. It's a great little player with, to be honest, not all that much wrong with it. The audio is by and large pretty clean. Certainly nothing upfront or persistent. Expect a few crackles in a couple of spots per side. By and large a very very decent standard. One a collector would be more than happy with - particularly when considering the rarity aspect. I detected a pop in adjoining groove between track 5 & 6 [lucky escape!]. You might detect an errant couple of ticks in one isolated spot. But I've gotta say it was a very enjoyable and impressive rendition. If only all true rarities surfaced sounding half this good..
Cover (Vg) Not up to the standard of the vinyl - but still respectable particularly given the vintage. The front is flat and in pretty decent condition. A good few edge creases and a crease top right with a small patch of laminate rumpling. The rear seems to have avoided the worst of the ageing process - relatively clean. A bit of discolouration in a couple of patches, a couple of nicks - but otherwise ok. The flipbacks have seen some wear, but are just about all intact and secure. There's a bit of edge wear and at the corners too. The spine is ok with the text all still legible. Overall the cover still retains verygood rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Lightly aged. No splits.
