Miles Davis Kind of Blue (CS 8163) Stereo 360 Sound 2-Eye Labels Davis (t) with Julian Adderley (as); John Coltrane (ts); Bill Evans or Wynton Kelly (p); Paul Chambers (b); and Jimmy Cobb (d).
Recorded, in New York City, on 2 march and 22 april 1959. This release 1967.
This Issue:
Front cover: Photo and text layout (album title and musicians' names),
and colors of lettering same as on original. "STEREO <-->
FIDELITY" at top center. "CS 8163" top left. Columbia logo above album
title. In small print, laid out vertically, at right edge: "(R)
'Columbia', (Lp), [Columbia eye], Marcas Reg. Printed in U. S. A. PHOTO:
JAY MAISEL".
Back:
Same layout, text, and photo as on original. "CS 8163" in upper-left
corner. In upper right: "CS 8163" with, underneath, Columbia logo (including 'eye' with black background) and, below it, "Lp" in a circle and a box. At very bottom: "THIS
COLUMBIA STEREO [stylized, in black and white] <----> FIDELITY RECORDING IS DESIGNED FOR USE ON 331/3 RPM STEREOPHONIC REPRODUCERS." In extreme lower-right corner: "2"
Note: Order of track titles on side 2 are reversed on back of album; they're listed correctly on label.
Center Labels and Runouts:
Red
label. In large white letters, at top, in semi-circle: "COLUMBIA".
Underneath, in black capital letters, is album title and, below it,
artist's name. Left of center hole, in black letters: "CS 8163". Right
of hole, in black letters, on two lines: "Side 1" (or "2") and "XSM
47326" (or "47327").
Two Columbia 'eyes', in white, at left and right edges opposite center hole. Between them, in semi-circle: "<-- '360 SOUND' STEREO '360 SOUND' -->". Underneath, at bottom edge: "(R) 'Columbia', [Columbia eye] MARCAS REG. PRINTED IN U. S. A.".
Side 1: [stamped] XSM-47326-1CA : [etched, stylized] P [stamped] [stray symbol] 2 C [etched] [stray symbol; loop?] Side 2: [stamped] XSM-47327-1CF : [etched, stylized] P [etched, stray mark] [stamped] B [etched] [stray symbol; unidentifiable]
Condition of Record: VG+.
A little spindle wear; record has been played some. Stray marks appear, more on side 1 than on 2, with
a blemish on the third track of side 1. There's a little dust scattered about, more on 1 than on 2.
Will VPI clean if requested.
Condition of Cover:
Front has small smudges, a few white spots and a slight, general
greying. Photo and text have held up well (only the last letters of
Adderly's name are marred) (correct spelling: "Adderley", btw). Slight
ringwear at bottom. A near-inch of bottom-right corner is bent. Back
text and photo fine given the age of the album. Upper-right corner has
small yellow spot where a sticker had been; bottom-right corner has a
small, blue-ink stamp. Previous owner wrote his name, in small letters,
at left edge, in top quarter of face. Along bottom, below last line of text, some greying.
Spine
very fine, text perfectly clean, no splits. Corners, minor bumps;
open-end corners, only bottom one bumped. Horizontal edges: no
shelfwear, top; bottom has shelfwear and a two-inch split.
I'm an independent seller divesting his own record collection. I'm not selling from a store or warehouse, with multiple copies of titles, or on behalf of a professional collector.
Shipping: Ebay requires seller to indicate shipping methods and other particulars, then automatically inserts the cost at the top of the listing. Buyer will pay amount as determined by destination, by shipping method he chooses, and by required insurance (see: below); I don't gouge the price to make more profit. (USPS Media Mail is cheapest; I will provide prices for US Priority, or for FedEx or UPS ground, if requested.)
Insurance is mandatory on shipments to US addresses:
The final price of the item determines the amount of insurance
required. Please wait till I inform you of your total cost prior to
submitting payment. It and not Ebay's stated cost is the amount to be
paid.
**For winners outside US**:
USPS shipping options are International Priority and International
Express. Both methods include insurance but only Express provides a
return receipt. (Check USPS's website for shipping prices.) If you want a
private-company shipper, I will quote you the cost at end of auction. First-Class-Package
service, which doesn't include insurance, is an option; the shipping
cost will be lower, but if your item doesn't arrive you have no
recourse. The risk is yours.
Packing: The
LP will be carefully placed in the standard cardboard LP box. Some
buyers like the record removed from its jacket and placed on top of it
before packing. If you want that, or have any other special
instructions, please say so.
Payment: Ebay now processes payments directly. I no longer accept payment by Paypal. I do accept cash in cases of in-person deliveries.
Returns: Returns will be accepted in cases of error in description.
