Art Blakey Orgy in Rhythm Vol. One (Blue Note BLP 1554) (BNST 1554 Japan) Blakey (d) with Herbie Mann (fl); Ray Bryant (p); Wendell Marshall (b); Jo Jones, Specs Wright (d, tym); Art Taylor (d); Carlos Valdez, Jose Valiente (cga); Sabu (bgo, timb, vcl); Ubaldo Nieto (timb); and Evilio Quintero (tree log, mar, cenc).

Recorded live, in New York City, on 7 march 1957. This release 1984.
This Issue: Front and back covers are exact replicas of 1957 original, BLP 1554. Large artist photo dominates front with "BLUE NOTE 1554" and "VOLUME ONE" appearing, in orange letters, on two lines, flush left. "ORGY IN RHYTHM", in larger, tan letters, ranged right, is on three lines. Artist's name, in largest letters, orange, is at center.
Back: Only difference from original is text at bottom. On two lines: "For Complete Catalog Write to BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC., 43 West 61st St., New York 23" and "Manufactured by TOSHIBA-EMI LIMITED Made in Japan. BLP 1554 Y2,300 [three symbols]".

Center Labels and Runouts: Label differences from original: "BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC . NEW YORK USA" instead of line with 47 West 63d address. Right of center hole: "BNST 1554 A" (or "B"). Below that, the JASRAC and another symbol.
Statement of rights/restrictions appears in semi-circle at edge on right side. At bottom edge, in tiny letters, is statement of Toshiba's licensing recording from Capitol Records.

Side 1: [stamped] BNST-1554-A  4 - 48  (BN-1554-A)  1S [on angle]3
Side 2: [stamped] BNST-1554-B  (BN-1554-B)  1S 2

Condition of Record: VG++ to NM. No spindle wear at all; no palpable blemishes. Some factory-made smudges, a few light lines; nothing that affects play. Original quality Japanese plastic sleeve.

Condition of Cover: Front is near perfect. If you look very closely, and tilt cover, there's a drop of ringwear at the top. Otherwise, not as much as a faint score line. Back equally clean, unmarked, but for one tiny smudge in the upper-right corner.
Spine perfect, neither corner bumped. Open end, bottom corner very slightly bumped. Horizontal edges: top, perfect; bottom, an inch of minor shelfwear at open end.

I'm an independent seller divesting his own record collection. I'm not selling from a store or warehouse, with multiple copies of titles, or on behalf of a professional collector.

Shipping: Ebay requires seller to indicate shipping methods and other particulars, then automatically inserts the cost at the top of the listing. Buyer will pay amount as determined by destination, by shipping method he chooses, and by required insurance (see: below); I don't gouge the price to make more profit. (USPS Media Mail is cheapest; I will provide prices for US Priority, or for FedEx or UPS ground, if requested.)

Insurance is mandatory on shipments to US addresses: The final price of the item determines the amount of insurance required. Please wait till I inform you of your total cost prior to submitting payment. It and not Ebay's stated cost is the amount to be paid.

**For winners outside US**: USPS shipping options are International Priority and International Express. Both methods include insurance but only Express provides a return receipt. (Check USPS's website for shipping prices.) If you want a private-company shipper, I will quote you the cost at end of auction. First-Class-Package service, which doesn't include insurance, is an option; the shipping cost will be lower, but if your item doesn't arrive you have no recourse. The risk is yours.

Packing: The LP will be carefully placed in the standard cardboard LP box. Some buyers like the record removed from its jacket and placed on top of it before packing. If you want that, or have any other special instructions, please say so.

Payment: Ebay now processes payments directly. I no longer accept payment by Paypal. I do accept cash in cases of in-person deliveries.

Returns: Returns will be accepted in cases of error in description.

N A record known to have never been played. A CD that has never been removed from its jewel case.

NM A record or CD known or assumed to have been played. LP may have a surface fingerprint smudge or other minor blemish; it may have slight spindle wear. CD might have been played, but it and its booklet, and its case (or box), show little if any wear. Otherwise, item appears same as N in all respects.
VG++ More handling marks than on NM but should play like new. VG More than a few . If so, will be
