Below is my grading system for "45" records, which also use numerical values. I grade conservatively. I grade the vinyl, labels and picture sleeves or record company sleeves separately. The labels are not included below but noted in the grading description.  The vinyl grading may vary under different lighting with hairline scratches and scuffs, but i use the lighting that reveals these imperfections more than other lighting.

10 - Mint (M) -  Sealed and perfect with no flaws - Used only for new and sealed records

9 - Near Mint (NM) - Like new. Full original gloss. Close to perfect. Not played or barely played or handled. May be 1 or 2 very insignificant imperfections. Sleeve perfect.

8 - Excellent (EX) - Most of the original gloss still on vinyl. Minor hairline scratches and/or scuffs but not many. Sleeve has very minor wear and wrinkling.

7 - Very Good Plus (VG+) - Still some nice original gloss but more signs of use...more hairline scratches and/or scuffs. May be a bit of background noise when played. Sleeve shows more wrinkling with a few minor tears or very small slits.

6 - Very Good Plus (VG+) - Very Good (VG) -  A little more significant scratches and/or scuffs but still some gloss. Plays well with maybe some more background noise. Sleeve is wrinkled and bent but no big tears or slits.

5 - Very Good (VG)  -  Record plays with more background noise. Still a little gloss left but a bit more visible scratches and/or scuffs. Sleeve is wrinkled with some tears and/or slits but not anything big.

4 - Very Good Minus (VG-) -  More notable scratches and/or scuffs but record plays through. Sleeve are intact but not completely torn or slit.

3 -  Good Plus (G+) - Record plays but not great. Signs of heavy use, scratches and/or scuffs very prevalent. Sleeve damaged and not intact.

2 - Good (G) -  No gloss. Record may play but barely. Record has significant scratches and/or scuffs. Sleeve bad.
