An original 1964 of the DEBUT on UK Decca. Matrix 2A/3A. This is the earliest label version you can get your hands on from Spring-64..they exhibit ALL of the early errors. The Bo Diddley track was still referred to as 'Mona' when it's real name 'I Need You Baby'. Honest I Do is credited to Hurran/Calvert - when it should say 'Reed'. What makes this copy unusual is that the errors are present on the record label AND on the cover [i.e. before anyone had a chance to intervene]. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original mono cover with the additional error on 'You Can Make It' - by omitting the word "IF". Ha, careless! So, one of the earliest versions available of the DEBUT...and it plays great!
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) A lovely looking original which has only seen light to moderate use. Under close inspection I can only make out a few light marks per side. There is, however, a couple of radial marks in 'King Bee' which do cause issue [see detail]. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations. It's got all that ENERGY of the early cuts - and it plays clean as a whistle. You might pick out a few crackles in one brief isolated moment per side. Unfortunately the mark mentioned above does cause a coupe of skips in 'King Bee'. One of which causes a loss of one line of vocal. It does play through them though. A couple of clicks in 'Honest I Do'... A real shame about the skips in 'King Bee' as it's a lovely player barring that.
Cover (Vg) These early DEBUT copies are extremely hard to find well preserved. And this example is no exception. Acceptable - and no better! The front looks nice without too much creasing and laminate creasing. But do bear in mind there's a three inch rip coming in from the opening. I 've done as best a repair job I can on it - so it is merely cosmetic now. The rear is pretty tanned in places. Like I said - acceptable no better. Just remember, though, this is absolutely the earliest iteration you can possibly find. The spine is in pretty decent condition with all text legible. Overall the cover still retains very good rigidity - in part thanks to my repair job!
