An original and VERY 1st genuine press of CARNEGIE on UK CBS. Be careful on this title - many copies will LOOK like "1st press" - but many will not actually be true. For starters the copy must be Philips to be genuine 1962. Why? Because CBS did NOT have pressing plant in the UK in 1962. FACT. So, how do we know this is Philips on CBS label? Well, take a look at the deadwax... its very straightforward. 1st pressings must have the Philips country indicator ID of "420v" present. These original 1st copies also mention the sides as 1L & 2L - NOT "A/B". So, 100% Philips. For genuine 1st the labels must be correct too. They should mention 1L/2L and 'recording 1st Published'. If you can verify all of those indicator - you have yourself a 1962 copy. Matrix 1/2. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original cover with flipbacks exposed. No original inner I'm afraid.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) A great copy and looking relatively clean mostly. It is not peppered with marks, but there are a couple of small semi-feelable marks in track 1 {Side 1} [which sound], and the odd lesser ones occasionally on side 2.. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations per side. Basically when on song this copy is quite capable of playing very clean up around the Ex rating for large parts. And that's what you really need with Jazz. Any background and it will quickly irritate. But we do have a couple of issues. Those marks mentioned above. One causes 8-9 clicks in Track 1. There is a smaller second mark a bit later in the same track which causes 3-4 ticks [more minor]. There's also a couple of minor ticks in a couple of spots in Track 1 - side 2 [relatively minor]. Shame  - because without them this would be an absolute stellar copy. But the way I look at it is... records from '62 very rarely play this well full-stop. So, you take the good with the bad. This is DAVIS and it's '62 and it plays great for large parts.
Cover (Vg) Front looks fine with just a slight ripple at the opening. The rear exhibits a bit of foxing in places - nothing bad. Bit of damage to top right flipback. Minimal edge wear. Spine pretty much fully intact. Excellent rigidity.
