An original 1st issue on CBS in the UK from 1966. Now, do bear in mind this was originally a late 50's recording. And if you're lucky enough to own it on Original Riverside vinyl - then you've probably got deep pockets! For us mere mortals it would be advisable to go for a nice solid mid sixties CBS pressing. Matrix A1/B1. This <STEREO> is a very nice early and audibly impressive copy. It comes housed in an original E J Day <STEREO>cover. Note the error on the rear >> Monk is referred to as 'Thelonius' [Missing a 2nd 'o']. We also have the original CBS advertising inner sleeve from the time too. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In really nice condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection I'm only making out a couple of very light marks per side. Nice surfaces. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a level of playback mostly at EXCELLENT with one slight deviation in one spot. Really nice quiet intros and inbetweens and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. Actual audio quality is CBS - they definitely captured a great performance - and they captured it in detail. The audio is warm and lush - excellent reproduction. All I could detect was a few very slight ticks sporadically in 'You Needn't'. Very minor in reality - and not distracting. A truly bangin' copy - I love it! Very rarely do early 60's jazz records sound this good - hardly any background.
Cover (Vg+) Difficult to find these early covers in great nick, but this example is looking pretty spritely. Lovely clean and flat front without creasing - just one superficial surface level scratch. The rear has avoided the worst of the ageing process. All flipbacks are intact and secure. Ageing is most noticeable on the flibacks. There's some felt-tip makings near the CBC logo. The spine is 100% intact. overall the cover retains excellent rigidity in part thanks to the heavy card employed in manufacture.
Inner (Vg+) Minimal ageing. One side split has been taped up.
