An original 1st stereo press of Bookends on UK CBS. Matrix A4/B1. Noticeably heavy-set vinyl - check out the satisfying bulge on the labels. The vinyl comes housed in an original cover printed by Upton with pinched spine. We also have a CBS inner sleeve from the time too.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In lovely condition and has only seen light careful use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of very slightest marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Sourcing a really clean playing S&G record form the sixties is a harder task than you might at first think. The audio is so delicate and their music being so popular - tending to leave even good looking copies performing merely adequately. Occasionally you manage to find one that has seen only light careful use - and that very low-key delicate audio is still all preserved. And this is just such a copy. For a classic album from the sixties it really is a shame not to hear it with a perfectly clean background. How else are you going to take in all of that intricate percussion and sound effects>? This example plays really clean - surprisingly clean - throughout. I'm struggling to pick out anything in the background at all. Which means you get to hear these awesome sixties tracks straight from the time of the original masters - without interference. Highly recommended.
Cover (Vg+) Not quite up to the standard of the vinyl - but more than respectable. A beautifully clean and flat front cover. That front image is now legendary - and it is looking pretty darn dapper without creasing here. The rear has avoided the worst of the ageing process. Just a light touch in a couple of spots and a bit of handling. Edge wear is pretty minor and the openings are still sharpish. The spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
