An original UK 1st Press on COLUMBIA from 1957..way back! Matrix 1N/1N. Stampers 1G/12M [super early]. Tax Code 'XT' = 1957. I would argue this copy was on sale at 1st issue for the Xmas 1957 market. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original scalloped cover.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In lovely condition and given the vintage one could be forgiven for saying this LP is in marvellous condition. Has seen light careful use down its 65 year life. A couple of very slight marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. Most jazz records from this period are going to be knackered by this point in time. But this badboy is looking and sounding very spritely. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with minor deviation in a couple of sections. Very nice and clean warm audio. Some great brass on here. I'm getting a few crackles in a couple of the spoken word MC sections. E.g the long introduction to the band. But what I like here is that the actual band audio plays absolutely great. Just solid and clean throughout. I did detect a couple of clicks midway through side 2. Given the vintage - remarkable.
Cover (Vg) Original '57 covers were extremely flimsy and most will be wrecked by this point in time. This example is acceptable and has faired better than many. Clean and flat front without that god awful laminate lift. The rear exhibits some light ageing- not too bad though. A bit of edge wear and a few stress creases on the spine. Fairly typical sort of stuff.
