An original 1st press of 'MAN WHO' on the UK RCA label from summer 1972. Please note the original release of this title was barely 12 months prior on the Philips label in the UK. Given that Bowie was a relative unknown in '70 these copies are now highly sought after. What you have here is the very 1st pressing on RCA as the company made a huge push to get Bowie into the main stream. Matrix 1E/1E [1st cut]. Note the labels mentions the 'Titanic' publishing credits. This copy actually comes from around the time STARDUST would finally push Bowie into the big-time [post-summer '72]. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original cover printed by Robert Stace. There's also the lyric inner sleeve, but NO poster.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In lovely condition and has only seen the light use. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks per side - nothing heavy or nasty looking. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback with one deviation. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. A really clean player which will give you maximum opportunity to take in these classic tracks to full effect. Bowie was already exploring the heavier rock sound in '70 as is clear from this collection of songs. The public still had not picked up on his talent. Very little background observable. I did pick out 4-5 minor ticks as as 'Madmen' starts up. No major problem really. Slow-builds and noodling sections - CLEAN! Highly recommended.
Cover (Vg) Can often end up looking a bit beleaguered - but this example is looking tidy. Clean front and back with just some light handling and a sticker removal mark top right [inked in in black]. Some light edge wear and the openings are still firm. The text on the spine is 90% legible with a couple of stress creases. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. Very nice indeed!
