Fed up trying to snag a £500 solid Blue 1st issue of DSOTM? Well folks - there is another way to get that amazing 1st year audio on a very solid pressing - without breaking the bank. Why not opt for a clean playing copy from Spring '74? Because these '74 copies, like this example, carrying the A3/B3 matrix are just one iteration from those famous solid blue copies. How can we be sure it's from Spring -74? Well, EMI changed the perimeter text on all their labels in Spring 74 - from Gramophone to EMI. When they came to DSOTM the typesetters cocked up the labels - and left TWO mentions of 'Made in Great Britain'. Clearly an error - and totally unnecessary. This error is very useful for dating these early copies [along with that matrix A3/B3]. Being only 1 year behind the original masters and pressed on very solid vinyl they are audibly pretty much the equal of the 1st pressings. But lets face it - how much are you gonna pay for a solid-blue that plays well? $$$? The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an early cover with the left hand panel glued shut forming a nice solid front panel. We also have an original white inner sleeve with correct patent number, BOTH posters, and BOTH stickers. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In lovely condition and has only seen light use. A couple of lightest marks per side - nothing heavy or worrisome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with two deviations. Intros and inbetweens are beautifully quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. These early copies are in a league of their own when it comes to audio - I don't think any other copy will come close to a clean playing copy from the first 12months. Really clean throughout. All I could detect was a bit of faint presence briefly and a couple of isolated crackles in the fussy section toward the end of 'Time' [toward end of side 1]. And 5 ticks early in 'Us & Them' - over before the vocal comes in. Overall this record is playing really clean - and it's not every copy that delivers this sort of rendition. If you need to hear this title in analogue, close from the masters, I can't really imagine a better or more cost effective way. Highly recommended.
Cover (Ex) Well, you don't see too many original covers looking this darn tidy. The aesthetic is almost entirely untouched front and back - just lightest signs at the foot. Very nice solid opening panel - really like that. The interior looks superb - no issues at all. Very little edge wear at all and sharp firm openings. The spine looks superb - hardly any wear. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. Very very fine indeed.
Posters (Ex-) Never been near a wall. Lightly aged on the rear. Otherwise - superb.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. No splits.. Otherwise -- very nice.
Stickers (Vg+) Unpeeled. One sticker is a bit creased.
