This English power trio is One ofof history, playingA mixtureofHEAVY psych with progressive influences. May Blitz is One ofThe fewband that managesTo really get that hard rock style that is distinctively exciting,YouKnow That good old Jimi Hendrix bad assSound . The drums of Tony Newman are exciting OnOneofThe bestofThe era. The guitars of James BLACKSound cool and well played, butThe productionofThe debut did more justiceToHIS skills. Their HEAVY psych debut album is perhaps more well known, but OnSecond Album May Blitz is actually slightly more progressive -FOR it seesTheband experimenting with folk, funk, metal and jazz textures. What I Can n't understand is Theof that great reverb rockSoundTo more dry recordingSound thatSoundsA bit bleak in comparison with The debut. So The vocals tended ToSound betterOn theirFirst record.

FOR Mad Men Only is A HEAVY metal opener with nice fierce vocals and screaming guitars. Snakes an Ladders adds some funk textures and sees the band finding back its DE rock feel inThe middle section. The 25Th of December 1969 is AThe album would have been betterWithout this track. In part is another HEAVY psych track with some great themes - ToA drum solo. 8 Mad Grim Nits has A great drum and bass SoundA Dirty guitar solo reminderUsA bitof Mister Robert Fripp. High Beech A fairly modern sounding folk rock track, with an acoustic guitar solo that reminds me Aof Nirvana Unplugged. Honey COLORED TimeHEAVY rock track withA surprising jazzy interlude. Just thinking is One ofThe few tracks I've ever heard that really reminded meofTheSoundofThe German krautrock act Can ,A nice atmospheric track.

conclusions May Blitz may be One ofToThe rhythmical playing andThe awesomeHEAVY psych feel. This album shows just how much potential The bandThe production doesn't always doTheband justice. There isn't much early HEAVY psych so ifYou Likecaptain beyond , T2,BUDGIE otherTheGROUNDHOGSYou should definitely get into May Blitz. Three and A half Stars . (friso/progarchives.com)
